A New Year, Another Tomorrow

Greetings ladies and germs. 2014 is upon us and the new year is bursting with possibility! Good things are on the horizon and one of which is a new animated short known as “Another Tomorrow.”

Written and directed by Antonio Aquilino Medina, Another Tomorrow is a dark comedy with a splash of horror. It’s a story that aims to tingle your spine while tickling your funny bone! Magic hands people. The tale is as follows…

Every month a village must make a terrible choice. To ensure their safety, it randomly chooses one of its own to appease the insatiable hunger of a monster. When a child refuses to be the latest sacrifice, it threatens the future of the entire village.

As a member of the production team, I’ll be providing character art and 2D animation. One of characters I’ll be handling is this little guy. “Darius the Ghost.” (Kinda sounds like one of the Gung-Ho Guns)
With a trailer coming down the pike, you’ll soon be able to help this project grow on Kickstarter! For more info, check out the website here.

I wanted to have this done by Halloween, but didn't quite make it. Oh well. Happy belated Halloween! haha

Dames, Diners, and Dead Things

New concept, developed for an art test.  I'll cover the process (about a week in duration) in a follow-up post.

Back from the "Not Quite" Dead

To add more vector work to my portfolio, I revisited a concept from an old project. It was to be a side-scrolling beat 'em up in a 3D engine. I produced assets for a prototype stage (seen below), but I had also come up with some enemy designs. This guy was one of them.

At the time, I only had a few sketches of him (which I'll track down and scan), but I always wanted to complete his development. I'm also trying to add more vector work to my portfolio, so I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone. I actually have a whole slew of vector stuff from client work, but they're in NDA purgatory.

Sonic CD Fanart Contest

You're seeing it here first!

Just finished pulling an all-nighter to pump this out. I heard about the contest relatively late (only a week, or so 'til the deadline), so I had to hustle. Fortunately I'd done quite a bit of work to it over the weekend, so I wasn't working from scratch. Still, it took almost 12 hours to finish.

The absolute final deadline was 10:00am this morning. I got it in just in the nick of time, around 9:30.

*Update* 1-2-12

I was chosen as one of the first-prize winners! See my entry among the rest on Sega's Flickr.

Hot off the presses!

As of now, I'm officially a published illustrator! I was recently contracted to to do over a dozen illustrations for a children's book called "The Elf Bully." The original title was "Getting Santa's elf on the Shelf."  That, of course, had to be changed to avoid association with "Elf on a Shelf." That also called for a new cover to replace the one below.

Relatively speaking, it was a quick project. Initially scheduled for 2 weeks, it wound up taking about 4.  The time-frame was actually rather appropriate since the project essentially paid my rent. hehe

Pick up "The Elf Bully" today! Now available on Amazon.

Dragons' Duel

I got another dinosaur for you, or should I say dragon? ;)

Most, if not all, of my next postings will be of old stuff.  I've been too busy with freelance and other things to work much on new stuff (or finish in-progress pieces.)

This is an ink drawing from college. Based upon the dates written on the back, I seem to have worked on this off and on for six days.

Megaman Tribute Entry

My next foray into Udon's series of tribute books. This time it's megaman.

I thought that this time around, I'd try focusing more on concept than technical execution.  I'd figured that perhaps the concept of box art for one of those retro walking robots would be pretty unique.

I also referenced this modern Astro Boy figure.

Scratches in the Dark

Here's a relic from '05. It's a scratchboard project from one of my sequential arts classes back at SCAD.

In search of Terratherium

I got a whole slue of sketches from that old Monster Hunter contest.  The contest was a bust, but it was fun playing around with designs.

I was primarily trying to fuse a Galapagos Tortoise with a Giant Sloth. I also tried referencing snapping turtles, armadillos, as well as prehistoric armadillos.

I wasn't sure of what to call it, so I took the Giant Sloth's scientific name Megatherium and switched out the "Mega" for "Terra".

Notebook Knuckles

I was going through some sketchbooks for stuff to put up on my new deviantArt page and I found this.

I also realized that I'm probably gonna spend most, if not all day scanning.
