Fresh Jam. Game Jam!

Marking my second participation in a "Game Jam" session, Empty Jar Productions collaborated with Products for Robots to create the 2D Action-RPG, Geometry Saga. It won best game going on to compete in Mozilla's Game On Competition!

Geometry Saga is an episodic series chronicling two warring factions: Vibrance, the color nation of heart and Pale, the monochrome nation of logic. In the first session, "War of Heart" the Pale nation seeks to overtake Vibrance and seize the power source known as "The Heart."

The gameplay featured in the trailer provides a peek a one of the playable "Vibrance" characters. As developments continues, I'll be providing sprite animation for even more!

For A Few Steps More

Here's a look at the prototype background I'm tinkering with.

The end product's going to be an outdoor scene with multiple instances of that light beaming through some trees.

New Animation for the New Year

I hope to put my best foot forward in the new year.

Animated in Photoshop

How better to represent that than with a new walk cycle.

Like my little friend here, I'm gonna keep going 'til I get where I'm going. Hopefully that's not "nowhere." haha

Georgia Fall Game Jam 2012

This might be a bit gauche, but I can't quite come up with alternate text to describe this. So, I'll do the 'ol copy and paste from my pro blog

Last weekend at Southern Polytechnic State University , I took part in the Georgia Fall Game Jam 2012.  There, several development teams were challenged to create a fully functional video game within a span of 48 hours. Developers were also tasked to center their project around the theme "Eye of the Beholder." Interpretation of this theme was limited only by imagination.  14 games were created in all.
"Team Singularity", of which I was a member, crafted the game Paradigm Shift.

Paradigm Shift is a first-person puzzle-based game in which the player must alternate between duel points of view to navigate a space station in ruin.  Housed in the ship's cargo, is a mysterious alien artifact who's seized control of the ship, the crew, and even the player.  The alien infection grants the player with a "second sight", allowing them to see areas and objects hidden from normal view.

My contributions to the project included concept art (for the robot drones), textures, and the game's name/logo.
The game is available for download and play here.
Below is a bit of a recap of the event, shot by the organizers.

Sonic CD Fanart Contest

You're seeing it here first!

Just finished pulling an all-nighter to pump this out. I heard about the contest relatively late (only a week, or so 'til the deadline), so I had to hustle. Fortunately I'd done quite a bit of work to it over the weekend, so I wasn't working from scratch. Still, it took almost 12 hours to finish.

The absolute final deadline was 10:00am this morning. I got it in just in the nick of time, around 9:30.

*Update* 1-2-12

I was chosen as one of the first-prize winners! See my entry among the rest on Sega's Flickr.

Hot off the presses!

As of now, I'm officially a published illustrator! I was recently contracted to to do over a dozen illustrations for a children's book called "The Elf Bully." The original title was "Getting Santa's elf on the Shelf."  That, of course, had to be changed to avoid association with "Elf on a Shelf." That also called for a new cover to replace the one below.

Relatively speaking, it was a quick project. Initially scheduled for 2 weeks, it wound up taking about 4.  The time-frame was actually rather appropriate since the project essentially paid my rent. hehe

Pick up "The Elf Bully" today! Now available on Amazon.
